14 fires reported in one week

Between September 29 and October 5, a total of 14 fires were recorded across the country, according to a report released by the Fire Department. The incidents resulted in an estimated ₺1,579,550 in property damage.

The fires occurred in Lefkoşa (Nicosia), Gazimağusa (Famagusta), Girne (Kyrenia), Yeşilköy, and Geçitkale. Investigations suggest that possible causes included electrical short circuits, unextinguished cigarette butts, overheated oil residue in barbecue chimneys, improper disposal of hot coals, and fires deliberately lit by individuals.

The Fire Department reminded the public that lighting fires—whether for cleaning, cooking, or heating—is strictly prohibited until October 31. Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling the 199 Fire Department Hotline, the 177 Forest Fire Hotline, or the 155 Police Emergency Line.
