17-year-old E.H., who illegally came to North Cyprus by boat, was arrested and taken to court.
A police report said that the officers patrolling in Haspolat (Mia Milia), on August 5, 2024, got suspicious of the suspect’s actions and checked his identity. The policed detected that the suspect did not have legal entry into the country.
Following investigations, the suspect was determined to have entered North Cyprus illegally on August 5. Police were not yet able to determine where he came from.
According to the police, the suspect admitted in his statement that he paid 3,400 Euros and came to the island by boat along with 11 people more people, noting that they were put into a pickup truck, and were dropped off an hour later, supposedly being told to cross over to the south side in order to go to Greece, but all lost their way.
The police stated that the investigation has been completed and that the suspect had no legal status in the country and requested he be sent to prison.
Judge Jale Ergüden, who evaluated the testimony, ordered the suspect to be sent to prison not exceeding 20 days.
