218 prefabricated classrooms established for schools

As the new academic year is set to begin on Monday, the education system is facing multiple hurdles while preparing to welcome 65,000 students back to school. The country is grappling with issues ranging from inadequate school buildings to infrastructure problems and teacher shortages.

In response to safety concerns, the government has taken decisive action. Following rigorous evaluations by the Prime Ministry’s Earthquake Committee, 26 school buildings were declared unsafe for use. This assessment resulted in the evacuation of 294 classrooms and auxiliary rooms. A total of 218 prefabricated classrooms have been rapidly deployed across affected areas. This emergency measure comes with a substantial price tag of 48.75 million TL.

Once permanent structures are erected to replace the unsafe buildings, these prefabricated units will not go to waste. The versatile spaces will be transformed into painting workshops, general purpose rooms, group study areas, sports facilities, storage units, recreational spaces for table tennis, and additional dining areas to support existing cafeterias.
