April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day was celebrated with official ceremonies and vibrant activities, marking the 105th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, a national holiday dedicated to children by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The celebrations began on April 17 and culminated yesterday with the beloved symbolic tradition of children taking over official roles, where young participants shared their hopes and dreams with public officials.
Official events on Wednesday began with a speech by Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, emphasizing the significance of the day as a symbol of both national sovereignty and the value placed on future generations.
This morning a state ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument in Lefkoşa, where wreaths were laid in honour of the national holiday.
Throughout the day, schools and municipalities across the country are hosting a variety of celebratory activities, including performances, cultural events, and community gatherings, bringing children and families together to commemorate this special occasion.
