Cyprus Special Olympics Federation will take part at the Special Olympics Winter World Games in Turin for the 15th time, between March 7 and 16, with six athletes, three men and three women, who will compete in Snowshoeing and Cross Country Ski.
In particular, Andreas Skordos, Eleni Sophocleous, Pantelis Panayiotou and Teresa Onoufriou will compete in Snowshoeing.
Demetris Christophi and Nicoletta Christodoulou will compete at Cross Country Ski events.
The athletes were presented on Thursday in a press conference.
Head of the Cyprus Special Olympics Federation, Maria Vasiliadou spoke of the greatness of these athletes’ souls adding that they will to their utmost in Turin “to make us all proud as always.”
She also said, among other things, that the federation’s main goal is to open its doors to all people with mental disabilities aiming to give them as many opportunities as possible to increase their confidence, their independence, their solidarity and their friendship.
In Cyprus she said, over 800 athletes with mental disabilities are trained in swimming, cycling, football, basketball, gymnastics, horse riding, bowling, table tennis, winter sports and non competitive programmes such as MATP and Young Athletes.
