The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) officials held a meeting with the DISY delegation headed by Annita Demetriou yesterday.
Current issues regarding Maria Angela Holguín Cuéllar, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, and the 14-point package measures announced by the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides were discussed during the meeting that was realized at the CTP headquarters at 4 p.m.
EMPHASIS ON ROTATING PRESIDENCY AND EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION IN STATE BODIES
The views on overcoming the ongoing impasse on the Cyprus issue and reaching a bi-communal and bi-zonal federal solution based on political equality under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions were exchanged.
During the meeting, it was agreed that political equality requires the acceptance of the rotating presidency and effective participation by at least one positive vote in the federal state bodies, as defined in the relevant Security Council resolution.
APPROVAL OF GUTERRES FRAMEWORK
Both parties also agreed that it was essential to adhere to all the rapprochements reached in Crans-Montana before the official negotiations, and to establish a result-oriented process based on a timetable to be determined with a sense of urgency based on the Secretary-General’s 6-point framework dated June 30, 2017.
ERHÜRMAN “THE 14-POINT PACKAGE RECOMMENDATIONS DID NOT SATISFY EXPECTATIONS”
Stating that the 14-point package measures announced by the Greek Cypriot leader were generally abstract and did not satisfy the expectations of the Turkish Cypriot community, CTP leader Tufan Erhürman said that basic human rights should be delivered, especially the citizenship of children born to mixed marriages, and benefiting from the GESY health system and EHIC health insurance system.
DEMETRIOU “WE WILL WORK TOWARDS MEETING THE EXPECTATIONS”
DISY leader Annita Demetriou stated that she will receive detailed information from the Greek Cypriot leader regarding the sensitivities and will work towards meeting the expectations.
