Conservation work at Saint Sergios and Vakhos church completed


 

According to the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage (TCCH), the conservation work at the Saint Sergios and Vakhos Church at the Taşlıca (Neta) village has come to an end. The Hamidiye Mosque in the Lefkara Village which is also nearly completed is currently undergoing conservation work.
Co-Chairman of the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage Ali Tuncay announced that some changes were carried out on the St. Sergios and Vakhos Church which dates back to the 12th century, within the framework implemented by UNDP. Incompatible additions were removed from the historical monument, the weathered stones were replaced, sections at the mosque that had fallen apart were rebuilt, plaster has been applied to the interior and exterior of the mosque, and some work has been carried out on the roof.
The conservation work carried out on the Lefkara Hamidiye Mosque by UNDP is almost completed. An event will be held on March 26, 2024, following the completion of the work carried out on the historical mosque.
