One woman was brutally murdered in North Cyprus, while a total of 831 complaints were filed to the Violence Against Women Intervention branch between January and November 2023.
423 of these complaints are said to be physical violence, 181 verbal violence, 17 sexual violence and 209 were other forms of violence.
It has been revealed that hundreds of women are subjected to violence, yet the reasons are unknown.
According to research, alongside economic and social reasons, fear for life, family and environmental pressure, are also causes for cover ups for violence against women.
The violence women experience is still perceived as physical violence by many.
However, violence includes not only physical but also sexual, economic and psychological forms. Forcibly taking a person from one place to another by threatening them, and pressurising them is also a form of violence.
