YÖDAK Secretary General Refiker and Tatar’s bodyguard Avcil taken to court over the weekend

Higher Education Planning, Evaluation Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) Secretary General Derviş Refiker, and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar’s bodyguard police officer Şerif Avcil, who were arrested following an ongoing investigation into the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU), appeared at court on Saturday.
Both suspects have been detained for 3 days.
More information has emerged about the suspects, who were trialed separately.
It has been reported that the suspect Refiker had taken a bribe to speed the process of KSTU’s medical faculty to be on the agenda of YÖDAK.
According to reports, Refiker’s name was found on seven separate payment slips of different dates, among the university’s accounting records.
A note was found saying that there were receipts stating that a total of 6,330 dollars, 700 Euros, 10,000 TL, and a pair of AirPods Pro 2 headphones were given to the suspect.
The police said that the suspect had his signature on an 800-dollar receipt and that 800 dollars and 700 euros and the AirPods Pro 2 headphones were found in possession of the suspect. The police emphasized that they will investigate whether Avcil had taken anything else written on the other receipts.

POLICE OFFICER TO BE ARRESTED FOR 3 DAYS

Police officer Şerif Avcil, who appeared in court as part of the fake diploma investigation, has been accused of ‘inciting to issue a false document’.

The police said that Avcil enrolled in a non-thesis master’s degree in business administration at KSTU. According to reports, the suspect enrolled in the program on June 5, 2023, but was shown to have registered on February 2, 2022.
His fake grades had been added into the system between June 6, 2023, and June 15, 2023, and graduated as top student of the department on June 19, 2023.
The police said the person who added the grades to the system was found and that it had been done upon provocation.
The police stated that the suspect didn’t make any statements saying that he would like to use the right to remain silent. During questioning, the suspect told the police that he did not know where the diploma was and that he had never used it before.
