Christodoulides expresses satisfaction over EU conclusions on relations with Turkey


 

Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Christodoulides, has expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the discussion on the EU Summit conclusions on the EU-Turkey relations, stressing that a “positive message” was sent to Ankara, and that whether this message translates into action “depends on progress on the Cyprus issue”.

Christodoulides stressed that translating this message into action hinges on advancements in resolving the Cyprus problem, a sentiment echoed by leaders including the Greek Prime Minister, French President, German Chancellor, Italian Prime Minister, Dutch Prime Minister, and heads of the Council and Commission.
He underscored the constructive role of Cyprus and urged Turkey to take necessary steps for tangible progress.

Regarding initiatives for EU-Turkey relations, Christodoulides highlighted efforts by the Council and Commission, along with Greece’s persistent advocacy. He noted the German Chancellor’s involvement in securing Turkey’s acceptance of a Personal Envoy appointment and ongoing efforts to resume dialogue.
