Violence in schools on the rise!

The Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS) is raising concerns as the increase in school violence has reached terrifying levels.

Union representatives, together with a group of parents from the Meral-Vedat Ertüngü High School, issued a press statement in front of the Ministry of National Education and spoke of the problems experienced by students.

In a letter sent to the Minister, it was stated that incidents of violence among students are on the rise due to insufficient school personnel.

Reports showed that students have been hospitalized after fights in schools.

Students have also been caught with weapons (butterfly knives) on campus.

Secondary school students are being victimized by high school students as their money is being taken, they are being locked up in toilets, and are getting beaten up all the time.

It was also reported that students are skipping school as there is no security.
