Dentist arrested and taken to court following fake diploma investigation!


 

President of the Dentist’s Chamber Halil Bakkaloğlu, who was arrested within the scope of the fake diploma investigation launched at Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU), was arrested on Wednesday morning on charges of “issuing a fake document”, “putting a fake document into circulation”, and “procuring records through false behavior” and was taken to Lefkoşa (Nicosia) District Court.
Financial police officer Ali Erdelhun conveyed his version of facts during the court.
The police were only able to find the suspect after research was conducted on the school’s system following a financial and academic investigation initiated at the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University.

According to the police description, the suspect enrolled in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery doctoral programme on February 22, 2021, but was shown to have registered on September 6, 2019.

The police stated that the suspect was shown to have enrolled in the programme on September 6, 2019, to make it seem like he had studied in the doctoral department, which is 8 semesters (4 years) and requires a completion of 23 courses.

It was noted that 23 fake grades had been added into the system between 2019 and 2023 on two separate occasions and that he graduated on November 10, 2023.

The police added that the suspect had submitted his doctorate diploma to the Ministry of Health and the Chamber of Doctors in 2023.

The police announced that the suspect, who was arrested had submitted the fake diploma to the police. Noting that the crucial part of the investigation which could be affected by the suspect has been completed, the police requested that the case be binded over.

Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç, who evaluated the testimony in the hearing, ordered the suspect to be released on a pending trial, subject to the conditions of a 100,000 TL pecuniary guarantee, a surety bond of 700, 000 TL signed by two Turkish Cypriot bailsmen, and a police check every week.
