The Livestock Producers and Breeders Association supported by unions, political parties, and organisations continue to strike in front of the Prime Ministry building. Tensions escalated during the protest, as activists broke the Prime Ministry’s’ gates chanting slogans calling for the government to resign.
Police officials warned the angered activists noting that ‘they will have to use force’ to stop violent clashes if activists do not calm down. The protest continued in front of the Prime Ministry building with a calmer tone.
Speaking during the strike, Head of the Livestock Producers and Breeders Association Mustafa Naimoğulları, thanked the unions for supporting the action.
“This support will increase even more, the government knows that this is a wrongdoing to the livestock producers, this strike is indefinite, we will keep fighting for our right and will get what we want.” Naimoğulları was cited as saying.
Naimoğulları rejected the Prime Minister’s request of meetings with ministers, saying that “We will not accept any condition if the government does not step back from the imported meat decision. The decision should be lifted immediately. This is our first priority.” he said.
