22-month old baby tragically dies after electrocuted

A 22-month-old boy passed away on Saturday afternoon in Nicosia, succumbing to injuries sustained from an electric shock at his home in Ypsonas, Limassol, on Friday morning.

The child was found unconscious near a plugged-in vacuum cleaner by his 37-year-old mother shortly before 9:00 am on Friday.

He was rushed by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital where he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Medical personnel successfully resuscitated him and transferred him by ambulance under police escort to the Makareio Hospital in Nicosia due to his critical condition.

According to Philenews, initial reports suggest the boy may have been holding an electrical outlet cover when he received the shock.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident, including whether the child unplugged and plugged in the vacuum cleaner cord.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department also conducted examinations of the appliance but reportedly found no initial faults.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
