Prices rose by 11.44 per cent in June and 65.43 per cent from a year ago


 

Statistics Office in North Cyprus said on Wednesday that the cost of goods and services rose by 11.44 per cent in June compared to last month and by 65.43 per cent in the last 12 months.

The Statistics Office announced the Consumer Price Index figures for June 2023.

The biggest price increases for the main expenditure groups were in education, (63.10 per cent), entertainment and culture (18.25 per cent), and restaurant and hotels (17.98 per cent). That was followed by transport (13.44 per cent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (11.04 per cent), various goods and services (8.31 per cent), household, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (6.89 per cent), health (4.38 per cent), clothing and footwear (4.19 per cent), furnishing and household equipment (3.06 per cent), communication (4.35 per cent) and transport (2.46 per cent). The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages went down by 0.56 per cent.

The top three items with the biggest average price rises were lemons (296.23 per cent), private training courses (university prep) (147.76 per cent) and private secondary school fees (142.36 per cent). The items with the biggest average price decreases were melon (76.16), watermelon (72.20 per cent) and green beans (52.74 per cent).
