Anastasiades files €2M defamation lawsuit against author Drousiotis

Former Greek Cypriot Leader Nicos Anastasiades has taken legal action against author and journalist Makarios Drousiotis, claiming defamation in several of his books and articles.

Filed on April 23, 2024, in the Nicosia District Court, the lawsuit by Anastasiades’ lawyers, Georgios Triantafyllidis and Theodoros Oikonomou, alleges that Drousiotis made damaging and unfounded accusations in his works “State Mafia” and “The Gang,” as well as in an article from 2013.

Anastasiades is seeking punitive damages exceeding €2 million, a court injunction to halt further dissemination of the disputed content, and any other remedies the court finds suitable, in addition to covering legal costs.

Drousiotis, who served as an aide to Anastasiades from 2013 to 2014, has authored three books since his departure from the Presidential Palace.
One of his books, “Mafia State,” discusses the involvement of Russian oligarch Dimitri Rybolovlev in Cyprus following his high-profile divorce, detailing alleged connections to a major law firm and Anastasiades, controversial legislative activities, favorable judicial rulings, and significant financial transactions.

Anastasiades has rejected all such allegations in his public responses.
