A 30-year-old motorcyclist died in a fatal traffic accident that took place on the Girne (Kyrenia) – Tatlısu (Akanthou) main road yesterday evening.
A police statement said that Küçükerenköy resident Cemre Yönet (M-30) who was speeding and heading towards Tatlısu (Akanthou) crashed into the right side of LZ 864 registered vehicle driven by Mikail AKBAŞ (M-19) who was under the influence of 285 ml of alcohol, and carelessly drove into the main road from Palm Bay View site at around 11.10 p.m. on February 26.
Motorcyclist Cemre Yönet, who was seriously injured following the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Mikail AKBAŞ driver of LZ 864 registered vehicle, was admitted to the Girne Dr. Akçiçek State Hospital for minor injuries and discharged following his treatment.
Mikail AKBAŞ has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
