Implementation Protocol (Approval) Draft Law for the Intelligent Transportation Systems Project between the Republic of Türkiye (TR) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was accepted with a majority vote during yesterday’s extraordinary session at parliament.
INSTANT NOTIFICATION FOR SPEEDING
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı announced that ASELSAN and RADAR-SAN are working in collaboration on the project. Arıklı added that there are serious deficiencies in the current traffic system and that the radars cannot be collected when they travel overseas. Fortunately, he stated that the new system will instantly notify drivers and authorities of any speeding violation, leading to the issuance of a fine.
Responding to criticisms for placing the order for the project ahead of a debate in Parliament, Arıklı said that the procedures were initiated following the signing of the protocol and that they did not believe the opposition could go against such an important project.
Stating that the cameras are expected to be completed within a year, Arıklı gave information on the smart weighbridge system and smart intersection system, another part of the protocol. He mentioned that the weighbridge system’s point-to-point cameras will be able to detect vehicles carrying more than the permitted load, while the intersection system will alleviate traffic congestion.
