Authorities publish list of vehicles recalled for airbag replacement or repair

The competent authorities have released a list of vehicles subject to airbag replacement or repair. The recall applies to cars that were either actively registered or declared immobilized as of November 14, 2024.

In many cases, the recall comes with a directive for immediate immobilization, as these vehicles pose a serious safety risk. Since December 2024, the Ministry has strongly advised against using these vehicles and urged owners to seek alternative transportation.

The list was compiled using data from the Department of Road Transport (as of January 31, 2025) and includes information from vehicle manufacturers’ distributors or data analysis conducted by the Koios Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus.

For vehicles confirmed by the manufacturer, the recall is final, and owners must take immediate action to address the issue.

If the recall is based on Koios’ data analysis, vehicle owners are encouraged to contact their brand distributor to verify the recall status. However, if a manufacturer’s distributor is unavailable, the information is considered final, and owners are required to arrange for necessary repairs.

Vehicle owners are urged to check the recall list and take prompt action to repair or replace the affected airbags. This is a critical safety issue, as defective airbags can lead to serious injuries or fatalities if deployed.
