Average government employment reached to 54,385 persons


 

The average total government employment in Cyprus for the period of January – May 2024 rose by 5.1% to 54,385 persons compared with the respective period of last year, CySTAT has reported.
In May 2024 total government employment reached 54,826 persons.
According to CySTAT, employment In the Civil Service numbered 12,032 permanent employees, 4,248 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 1,271 employees with contracts of definite duration, and 5,838 hourly-paid workers.
Permanent employees represented the highest share of total employees in the Civil Service with 51.4%m whereas employees with contracts of definite duration represented the lowest percentage with 5.4%.
In the Educational Service there were 11,889 permanent employees, 1,191 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 4,386 employees with contracts of definite duration and 148 hourly-paid workers, CySTAT added.
Permanent employees represented the highest percentage of total employees in the Educational Service with 67.5% and hourly-paid workers represented the lowest percentage with 0.8%.
In Security Forces there were 8,144 permanent employees, 4,633 employees with contracts of indefinite duration, 299 employees with contracts of definite duration and 747 hourly paid workers.
Permanent employees represented the highest percentage of total employees in Security Forces with 58.9% and employees with contracts of definite duration represented the lowest percentage with 2.2% CySTAT added.
