Non-governmental organizations in the Lefke (Lefka) region criticized the damage to the mouflon statue that had been placed at the Bağlıkoy junction by the Lefke Tourism Association.
Karlıtaş: “This is unacceptable”
Issuing a statement, the head of the Lefke Tourism Association Hasan Karlıtaş said that, as an association, in line with a special project, the mouflon statue was placed at the entrance of Bağlıköy to attract more visitors to Lefke and its villages. He said that causing damage to the statue was not acceptable and added that they filed a police complaint. Karlıtaş said that they repaired the statue and put it back in its original place.
Oktay: “Necessary measures should be taken”
Head of the Non-Governmental Organization Platform of Lefke Teoman Oktay also pointed out that the attack against the statue was not the first time and that other public belongings in the region were constantly being damaged. Oktay stated that they will take the necessary initiatives on the issue.

Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya for his part said that apart from the damage made to the mouflon statue, lighting poles, garbage bins, electric lamps and planted trees have constantly been damaged. People, lacking a sense of belonging to the area they live in, and uncontrolled population growth is the reason for the negative incidents, Kaya said.
