Bi-communal Labour Day Event to promote peace and social justice in Nicosia


 

Labour Day on May 1st will be marked with a bi-communal celebration under the theme “Shoulder to Shoulder for Peace and Social Justice” in the buffer zone of Nicosia.

A press conference was held on Tuesday at the Home for Copperation in the buffer zone, with participation from various union and NGO representatives. The event was jointly announced by Burak Maviş, Secretary General of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union (KTÖS), and Sοtiroulla Charalampous, General Secretary of the Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO)

According to the organizers, participants from the South will gather at Eleftheria Square at 17:00, where speeches will be delivered. They will then proceed to the buffer zone to meet their Turkish Cypriot counterparts.

Participants from the North will assemble at Kuğulu Park at 17:30, and head to the buffer zone by 18:30. The event will feature speeches on the significance of Labour Day, as well as artistic performances by İzel Seylani and Yorgos Kalogirou.
