Passengers were stranded at Ercan airport for 5 hours’ yesterday as they were unable to board due to an IT failure.
According to Kıbrıs Postası, the inability to carry out passenger transactions at the airport created immense chaos.
The passengers were told that the fibre optic cables leading to the airport were damaged during excavation work carried out by the Değirmenlik Municipality.
Travelers waiting to be checked in expressed their woes throughout the day. A passenger was taken for questioning by police following a reaction to the incident.
Meanwhile, Ercan Airport later announced that its IT system was up and running again, and flights returned to normal.
Flight delays were experienced; it had been reported.
