Christodoulides presented his proposal on the participation of the EU representative in Cyprus negotiations


 

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides presented his approach on both the Cyprus issue and geopolitical matters in general to the Presidents of the Commission and the European Council during his contacts in Brussels.
Greek Cypriot Government sources said the Christodoulides noted a positive approach and that the leaders of the institutions see a window of opportunity for Cyprus.
According to the same sources, Christodoulides exchanged views with Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel on Cyprus’ proposal for more active involvement of the EU in the negotiations, with the Cypriot side expressing satisfaction with the EU’s commitment to the agreed framework for a solution.
In the context of this discussion, he discussed the profile and characteristics that a political personality, which Cyprus considers could take on the role of a political envoy of the EU, could have.
However, according to the same sources, the effort being made at this stage concerns the preparation of the ground for the next steps up to the elections in Turkey, depending on the developments in the country.
