Committee rejects lifting of Emrah Yeşilırmak’s parliamentary immunity

A special committee established within the Turkish Cypriot Parliament has decided not to recommend the removal of the parliamentary immunity of UBP İskele MP Emrah Yeşilırmak. The decision was made by a majority vote, which also included a postponement of any prosecution until the member’s parliamentary tenure ends.

The committee’s report was submitted to the Parliament today by its chair, UBP MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu. During the presentation, Hasipoğlu noted that members Ongun Talat and Ürün Solyalı from the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) voted in favour of lifting the immunity, also expressed their reservations and issued dissenting views against the majority decision.

Ten MPs from the CTP objected to the committee’s report overall. The vote aligns with the decision not to proceed with the removal of Yeşilırmak’s immunity at this stage, effectively postponing any legal actions until the end of his parliamentary term.
