Congolese woman living on streets arrested in Nicosia

A 25-year-old Congolese national, Ornella Bitembu Mwetaminwa, who was found in a distressed state on the pavement in front of an apartment building was arrested by Nicosia police yesterday at around 9 PM.

During initial questioning, Mwetaminwa was unable to provide clear information about her source of income or current address, raising suspicions among the police. Her behavior during the interrogation was described as suspicious by the authorities.

As part of their investigation, the police have taken Mwetaminwa’s fingerprints to check for any prior criminal involvement. In her statements to the police, Mwetaminwa reportedly disclosed that she had no money or means of livelihood. She expressed a desire to return to her home country and admitted to having no place to stay, resulting in her sleeping on the streets.

Following her arrest, Mwetaminwa appeared before a judge who ordered her to be held in police custody for three days to allow for further investigation.
