Controversial posters ripped apart in Nicosia

Posters featuring National Unity Party (UBP) MPs who opposed lifting a fellow MP’s parliamentary immunity- amid ongoing investigations into alleged fake diplomas- have been torn down in various locations across the capital.

The posters, prepared by the People’s Party(Halkın Partisi), displayed in public areas and bear the heading “Recognise These!” alongside photographs of MPs Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, Hasan Küçük, and Ahmet Savaşan.

In a statement shared on social media, Halkın Partisi leader Kudret Özersay confirmed that the posters had been vandalised. He condemned the act and questioned the motives behind it, stating, “Tearing down billboards does not hide this shame. The question is simple: if you are innocent and have not obtained a fake diploma, why are you avoiding facing the court? If your parliamentary colleagues are innocent, why are you preventing the removal of their parliamentary immunity? If this continues, not only in Nicosia but across the entire island and in all districts, you will see these billboards everywhere.”

The posters indicate that the MPs named are involved in a parliamentary committee that recently rejected a motion to lift immunity in the investigation into alleged fake diplomas.

Locations of the posters include Dereboyu traffic lights, Civil Defence roundabout, Prime Ministry traffic lights, near the roundabout of Atatürk Sports Hall, and along Haspolat road.
