Leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Tufan Erhürman, has stated that the European Parliament’s 2023–2024 Türkiye Report once again underscores the international community’s firm rejection of a two-state solution in Cyprus.
Speaking on a tv programme, Erhürman emphasised that the report provides “not the slightest acceptance” of the two-state model and criticised the diplomatic stance of the current Turkish Cypriot leadership.
“It’s clear once again that the idea of two states holds no ground internationally,” Erhürman said.
“There’s not even a defined framework for how such a model would be implemented. It’s an empty proposal—if anyone claims otherwise, they should come forward and explain.”
He also criticized Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar’s nearly five-year tenure, arguing that effective diplomacy has been virtually non-existent during this period.
Erhürman concluded that the European Parliament’s report is not only significant in itself, but also serves as evidence of the failure of current foreign policy efforts to gain international traction.
