Cyprus’ first LGBTQ+ film to be screened on June 14th


 

The Human Rights Bureau of AKEL, with the Union of Theater Artists of Labour Federation are co – organizing a screening of the short film “The Hunt” at the Egomio Cultural Centre with discussion on Wednesday 14th of June, 8.15 pm.

It is the first LGBTQ+ film in Cyprus that addresses homophobia and patriarchy.

Both the actors and the crew working on the film come from both communities.

It is the first fiction film made on the island that directly deals with issues of homophobia, patriarchy and homosexuality.

The process of creating the film lasted over 6 years due to many obstacles as a result of its content.

It is a co-production with Accept LGBTI Cyprus and Ministry of Education and Culture (South-Film Advisory Committee).
The film has been screened at many short film festivals and has received recognition (Europe, America, Latin America). It has been awarded the Second Prize at the International Short Film Festival at Rialto. It has also received the Intercommunal Cooperation Award from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.
Following the film, there will be a discussion with representatives from the LGBTQ+ community and the film contributors.
The film is written and directed by Sholeh Zahraei and Kamil Saldun.
The event is bi communal and the entrance is free. Duration of film 23minutes Duration of the event 1.30 minutes
