The Greek Cypriot government has confirmed that Cyprus has proposed the opening of a Turkish port to Cypriot ships in exchange for granting European visas to Turkish businessmen.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, speaking to Morning Roadmap, explained that the proposal forms part of Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides’ broader initiative to secure greater European Union involvement in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue and to leverage EU-Turkey relations.
Letymbiotis emphasized that lifting restrictions on Cypriot ships is a longstanding obligation for Turkey. He added that the Greek Cypriot government is working towards a comprehensive revision of the EU-Turkey relationship framework, underlining that progress in these relations hinges on Ankara’s fulfillment of its obligations toward Cyprus and its alignment with international law.
