Cyprus to accelerate talks aimed at reuniting the country

Speaking to Ada TV, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman evaluated the messages given on both sides of the island on July 20.

CTP leader Tufan Erhürman noted that he carefully analyzed the statements issued on July 20 and observed that the Cyprus issue is expected to accelerate.

Erhürman underlined the messages in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s July 20 speech, emphasizing that it was a strong statement, which said “We are ready for a negotiation, a dialogue and in achieving a long-lasting solution in Cyprus”.

Erhürman pointed out that a serious negotiation between Tayyip Erdoğan and the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was observed following their implications made on July 20.
“When I evaluate the process, I see that we are in a very serious preparation phase and that the UN is not just in an observer position. A back door diplomacy is intensively in action” Erhürman was cited as saying.

Noting that he is not pessimistic about the developments, Tufan Erhürman said “There are much greater activities going on regarding the Cyprus issue. It will continue until September and will either result positively or negatively”.
