INTERIOR MINISTER OĞUZ- “LEGAL ACTION HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST THE INDIVIDUAL”
Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz announced that legal action will be taken against the person. Minister Oğuz, in a statement on his social media, emphasized the importance of respecting religious beliefs and lifestyles.
“Discriminatory, provocative, harassing situations and behaviours in this regard are unacceptable,” Oğuz said.
“Today (yesterday), a person videoed himself at the Apostolos Andreas Monastery in Dipkarpaz, considered one of the important religious places of worship in our country. There are many variations in religious freedoms and worship in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Respect for religious beliefs and lifestyle is also very important and sensitive. In this regard, discriminatory, provocative, and harassing situations and behaviours are unacceptable. A complaint was made to the police directorate to initiate the necessary legal action through the district governor’s office on the behaviour aimed at disrupting social peace within the scope of respect for religions and cultures,” Oğuz is cited as saying.
