Due to the Eid pilgrimage, Hala Sultan Tekkesi will be closed on Wednesday to tourists

Due to a customary pilgrimage marking the fourth day of Eid al-Adha, the Hala Sultan Tekkesi in Larnaca will be closed to tourists on Wednesday. A similar journey to commemorate Eid al-Fitr was undertaken in April, and hundreds of pilgrims are anticipated to travel from the north to Larnaca.

Approximately 450 pilgrims have already completed the trek. With the Covid-19 pandemic making the pilgrimage impossible in the years between, April’s journey was the first since 2019.

One of the holiest locations on earth for Muslims is the Hala Sultan Tekkesi, which some academics rank as the fourth-most significant location in Islam, after Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem.

It is the final resting site of Umm Haram, sometimes referred to as Hala Sultan in Turkish customs, who was the prophet Mohamed’s companion and wife of Ubada bin al-Samit. Sunday marked the start of Eid al-Adha, a celebration held in Dhu al-Hijja, the final month of the Islamic calendar.
