Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman has stated that the perception of Turkish Cypriots in Türkiye is not at the desired level and needs to change.
Speaking on the “Söz Onda” program organized by the Ankara City Council, Erhürman criticized the portrayal of Turkish Cypriots in TV series and movies, which he said falsely depict the island as a center for illicit activities. “Even the island’s historical, humanitarian, and cultural values are not well known. We need to work harder to change this perception,” he emphasized.
Regarding the upcoming informal Cyprus meeting in Geneva, Erhürman reiterated the CTP’s stance that the United Nations must uphold its commitments before negotiations can proceed. He also outlined four key points put forward by the CTP.
“There is no political equality in a system where no Turkish Cypriot can ever be president. In all decision-making bodies of the federal state, there should be at least one Turkish Cypriot vote,” Erhürman said.
