EU rejects attempts of OTS to legitimise TRNC through granting observer status

The European Union rejects the attempts by the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) to legitimise internationally not recognised, “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (“TRNC”), through granting OTS observer status, including at its summit taking place yesterday in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic).

The European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell issued a statement regarding the issue.

“These attempts are regrettable and contradict the strong support of several members of the Organisation to the principle of territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter” said in the statement.

The EU reiterates that it only recognises the Republic of Cyprus as a subject of international law, in accordance with the respective UN Security Council Resolutions.
