Fake diploma scandal is growing!

Former National Unity Party (UBP) minister and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cyprus University of Social and Health Sciences, Kemal Dürüst, who was arrested on charges of “forged documents and laundering of income”, is being held in custody for another three days.
The police dealing with financial crime matters announced in court yesterday that further evidence had been discovered and that Dürüst would remain in police surveillance.
According to a police report, Dürüst fraudulently obtained a total of 926 thousand 286 TL by pretending to sell services to the university with 19 invoices from 6 different firms. He also ensured that 140 thousand TL school fees paid by students were transferred to the accounts of two employees, not to the school’s account.

It is also alleged that two lands belonging to a company in his name, one for 24 thousand dollars per year and the other for 12 thousand dollars per year, were rented to the university without the approval of the KSTÜ Board of Trustees. He is also being questioned on using school funds for the payment of wedding biscuits, ordered for a couples wedding reception, worth 34 thousand TL.
Meanwhile, Kemal Dürüst’s wife, Meray Dürüst who worked as director at the Ministry of Labor was arrested on the “fake diploma” investigation, but was then released on bail.
The police announced that although Meray Dürüst did not attend university classes and also failed 38 courses, she was given “fake” grades and shown as if she passed.
