Fisher “Cyprus question must not be deferred any longer”

United States Ambassador Julie Fisher said that the US agrees that the issue of the reunification of Cyprus should not be deferred any longer.
“The people of Cyprus can count on the United States to play its role in support of that process. We continue to stand ready to work with all Cypriots in this endeavor” she said.

Ambassador Fisher hosted a reception on the occasion of US Independence Day.

She emphasised that as US, they agree that the Cyprus question must not be deferred any longer.  “Too much is at stake for the people of the island, the people of the region and indeed the transatlantic family” she said.

The ambassador noted that , they seize every opportunity in American-Cypriot relations, that includes “the opportunity to bring the people of this island together in support of the settlement of the Cyprus question, as led by Cypriots, facilitated by the United Nations and governed by UN Security Council Resolutions”.

Mrs Fisher also referred to US-Cyprus collaboration in the field of education, noting that over 6,000 Cypriots have studied in the US since 1960.
