FM Ertuğruloğlu “We will give up the road if we have to”

Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has announced that work and subdivision activities on the Pile (Pyla) road have stopped.
During the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget discussions at Parliament yesterday, Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that the UN could not find common ground on the Pile (Pyla) issue. He blamed the UN for making one agreement with the Turkish Cypriot side and another agreement with the Greek Cypriot side.
Giving information on what was discussed during the meeting held with the UN Special Representative in Cyprus Colin Stewart and the people of Pile (Pyla), Ertuğruloğlu criticized the fact that approval on Subdivision activities was granted to the Greek Cypriot side without the knowledge of the Turkish Cypriot side.

“UN MADE A UNDISCLOSED AGREEMENT WITH THE GREEK CYPRIOTS”

“Using our road works as an excuse, the UN carried out an undisclosed agreement with the Greek Cypriot side. My undersecretary had also requested this kind of an agreement, but it was not granted to us,” Ertuğruloğlu was cited as saying.
Ertuğruloğlu explained that the UN had said that a two-week time frame was needed. However, the Greek Cypriots had carried out subdivision activities during this time. Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu noted that the subdivision activities on the Pile (Pyla) road during this time had stopped.

“WE WILL NOT ALLOW THE GREEK CYPRIOTS TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE PLATEAU”

Stating that the road works by the Turkish Cypriot side had come to a halt when it reached as far as the beginning of the buffer zone due to the subdivision activities carried out by the Greek Cypriot side, Ertuğruloğlu said, “We will not allow the Greek Cypriots to have access to the plateau. There is no chance…If necessary we will give up on the road. We have a military unit stationed there. It cannot be moved. We will not allow any initiative that will have it moved.” he said.
