Foreign Ministry says agreement on Pile-Yiğitler road

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the construction work on the Pile-Yiğitler road will be completed as soon as possible.

The statement came after it was announced that an agreement had been reached between the North Cyprus authorities and the UN.

“The construction of the Pile-Yiğitler road is currently ongoing and the plan is to complete the project as soon as possible,” the statement read.

It was also noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will take the necessary measures to prevent the use of the road for irregular migration and smuggling

“Just as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has not prevented any projects from taking place that could contribute to the development of the people of Pile, which have been implemented in consultation with all relevant parties, it will also continue to support the development of projects that respect the status of Pile,” it stated.

It continued to note that it is a legal obligation that all plans and projects regarding the buffer zone in Cyprus are realized with the knowledge and approval of the TRNC authorities.

“Our state will continue to carry out all necessary follow-ups with increasing determination to ensure that this legal obligation is respected,” the statement read.

The Foreign Ministry reminded that a fair, realistic and sustainable reconciliation on the island is based on good neighbourly relations between the two separate independent states based on the cooperation they will develop between them.
