As part of the “Green Lemonade” project, over 2,000 plants were distributed for free near the departures entrance at Larnaca Airport from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The public was able to choose from a variety of plants, including fruit trees, ornamental, and aromatic species.
According to Hermes Airports, the project also includes an annual harvest of 120 lemon trees at Larnaca Airport. These lemons are delivered to the KEAN factory in Limassol, where they are processed without preservatives. The resulting product is sold to passengers and the local community, with proceeds supporting environmental initiatives.
One of these initiatives includes the donation of a training drone for firefighting to the Forest Department, in collaboration with the Cyprus Institute.
Maria Kouroupi, Senior Director of Aviation Development and Communication at Hermes Airports, described the “Green Lemonade” project as an initiative that has grown into a broader environmental awareness campaign.
“Starting with the lemon trees at our airport, we have created a sustainability cycle that extends to the wider community. For the second consecutive year, we are offering free trees to the public, showcasing our commitment to enhancing urban greenery,” she added.
