Geroskipou Beach declared pollution-free by Municipality

Microbiological analyses conducted by a specialized laboratory have confirmed that the water at Geroskipou Municipal Beach are pollution-free and safe for swimming, the Municipality of Ierokipia announced.

In its statement, the Municipality noted that it had previously advised the public to avoid swimming in the area near Germaninas Street due to health concerns. This precautionary measure was taken after repeated overflows from the Pafos EDA sewage system resulted in significant amounts of sewage spilling into the sea near the beach. The Municipality stated that despite five months of persistent efforts to address the issue, no resolution has been reached.

In response, the Municipality of Ierokipia has decided to take legal action against Pafos EDA and the Joint Venture responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. The longstanding issue, which has persisted for over a decade, has now reached a critical point, prompting the Municipality to vow to hold those accountable for the continued pollution and defend the safety of citizens and the environment.

The Municipality also called on all involved parties, as well as relevant state authorities, to take immediate and decisive action to resolve the problem and prevent further damage to the coastal area.
