The infrastructure, environment, restoration layout and development project of the Girne Antique Harbor, which started on December 1, 2022, has been left unfinished, it had been reported. The port is appalling.
The tender for the project of 19 million 980 thousand TL was given to Tosunoğlu İnşaat Ltd. The project was expected to be completed in six months, with June 1, 2023, given as the finish date. However, the project has been stalled since many historical artefacts were found during the excavations, under-floor wiring could not be provided and there were delays in the payment of the tender. 28 businesses operating in the region have closed down due to the restoration work. Both the tradesmen in the region and the landlords have lost incomes.
While the Ministry is looking for a solution to solve the problems, the authorized firm says that the project will not be finished until the electrical infrastructure is completed. Tradesmen, on the other hand, are rebelling saying that “the tourism season is nearing and our businesses are closed, we have made a lot of loss already!”
