The iconic Bandabuliya Stage in Nicosia was officially reopened yesterday following a major restoration, marking a new chapter in the city’s cultural life.
The revitalization was made possible through a collaboration between the Nicosia Turkish Municipality and Arkın Creative Arts and Design University (ARUCAD). The reopening ceremony was a vibrant celebration of art, heritage, and community spirit.
The event also marked the completion of the first phase of the “Wholesale Market Transformation Project,” a key component of the broader “Old Wholesale Market and Rental Tender” initiative aimed at breathing new life into the historic area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nicosia Turkish Municipality Mayor Mehmet Harmancı declared, “We are witnessing the revival of history,” emphasizing that the refurbished venue is now equipped to host major cultural and artistic events—not only for the capital but for the whole country.
Erbil Arkın, founder of ARUCAD, called the Bandabuliya “a part of our past and our identity,” and urged continued support for the ongoing transformation of Lefkoşa’s historic walled city.
Starting in October, ARUCAD’s Faculty of Music and Performing Arts will begin using part of the venue, further integrating the space into the city’s cultural and educational landscape.
The reopening concluded with live music and a dance performance, setting the tone for the venue’s renewed mission as a hub for culture and the arts.
