The recommendations of the International Monetary Fund’s report on Cyprus confirm the responsible fiscal policy of the Government, Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday, upon his arrival at the 15th Nicosia Economic Congress.
Many of the IMF’s suggestions, he pointed out, are already included in the Government’s plans, adding that the reports of both the IMF and the European Commission are always considered “with a single goal, to strengthen the resilience of the Cypriot economy.”
He added that the recommendations, “confirm the responsible fiscal policy of the Government, which had we not followed, taking into account all current developments and the unstable environment, our country would certainly be in a clearly more difficult position to face the challenges that may arise.”
We do not reject the recommendations, he said, pointing out that many of them are “our own initiatives” and “we have already begun the implementation stage.”
Christodoulides said that the Council of Ministers will proceed with decisions and where legislative decisions are needed, they will be forwarded to the House of Representatives.
Asked if the recommendation for the 13th salary is a concern, Christodoulides replied negatively adding that “there are many other things that need to be done beforehand that we are already working on.”
