Inflation rates in the North of Cyprus are ongoing and relentless, continually breaking new records. The inflationary surge has now persisted for 50 consecutive months, with the overall inflation over the past four years soaring by approximately 800 per cent.
Food inflation has also seen a sharp increase. In March, the annual inflation rate for food products was 27.47 per cent, which jumped to 34.39 per cent in April, signalling a rapid rise in the cost of living for residents.
Notably, the highest increases were observed in specific product categories such as bottled water and meat products, particularly lamb. The price of bottled water, a basic consumer staple, rose by 83 per cent within a year. Meanwhile, the cost of lamb chops increased by 68.17 per cent, further burdening household budgets.
