The Department of Environmental Protection announced that samples have been taken from the seawater to analyse the pollution seen on the coasts of İskele (Trikomo) and Girne (Kyrenia).
A statement by the department said that the samples were delivered to the Underwater Research and Imaging Centre Laboratory at the Eastern Mediterranean University for analysis yesterday.
It has been reported that similar images were seen at the Gazimağusa (Famagusta) and Girne (Kyrenia) coasts, in May 2013. The statement also said that analysis results said that no synthetics or chemicals were detected in the water. According to the statement, the pollution may be due to the vital movements of animals moving along the parts of streams that flow into the sea, following seasonal change.
