Isias Hotel trial begins


 

The trial of Isias Hotel which collapsed causing the death of 72 people, including 35 Turkish Cypriot volleyball players and teachers, during the earthquakes that took place in Adıyaman, Türkiye on February 6 last year, has started and is taking place at the Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court.

The first trial has begun today, Türkiye time at 9 a.m (local time 8 a.m.), following the acceptance of the indictment demanding imprisonment for the 11 defendants, of 2 years and 8 months to 22 years and 6 months each for the crime of “causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence”.

During the hearing, the defendants were identified via video conference.

A large delegation from Cyprus, especially families seeking justice, were also watching the case.
Famous singer Haluk Levent, known for the aid campaigns he started after the earthquake and the support he gave for the Champion Angels Association, was also present at the court for support.

Families were holding banners for justice before the hearing.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Head of the Champion Angels Association, Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, made a press statement before the hearing.
