Citizens have reacted to the recent price hikes in electricity bills in North Cyprus. On the other hand, the Turkish Electricity Authority (KIBTEK), is complaining that even with the implementation of price hikes the expenses of the authority will not be covered.
According to Diyalog newspaper, KIBTEK is waiting on funds from the Finance Ministry to cover the loss at the authority which is around 100 million Turkish liras a month.
Claims have been put forward that the electricity authority will no longer be up and running if the ministry fails to financially help.
DAILY FUEL REQUIREMENT INCREASED TO 1,000 TONS
KIBTEK officials said that there has been a vast increase in the use of air conditioners to cool concrete homes in the past few weeks with the exceeding temperatures that have reached over 40 degrees. This has led to an increase in fuel consumption.
The normal daily fuel requirement is 300 tons; officials said and added that, this amount has now reached 1,000 tons.
