The Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) called on the Ministry of Health to regularly analyse sea and pool water and share the results with the public and to be more transparent. Drawing attention to the intense use of the sea and pools with the arrival of the summer, KTTB emphasized the importance of these analyses for the protection of public health.
KTTB, in a, statement, stated that water analysis, which is routinely carried out yearly between April and October, was not carried out until June this year. It was stated that the superficial analyses on 102 beaches conducted before the holiday season were not found sufficient or reliable. In its press release on June 26, KTTB called on the Ministry of Health to be more precise.
In the statement, it was criticized that despite the protocol signed by the Ministers of Health and Environment on June 27, no statement was made for two weeks regarding the analysis results. KTTB emphasized that shying away from making a statement during the protocol ceremony was unacceptable.
KTTB Public Health, Environment and Human Rights official, Dr. Cemal Mert criticized the fact that, despite claims of the Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek, the new analysis results were not shared after the signing of the protocol and the announcement of 102 beach water analyses from June were given late. Dr. Mert stated that this situation is an unacceptable negligence in terms of public health.
