The People’s Party (HP) has officially decided that party leader Kudret Özersay will not run in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for October. The party also confirmed it will not endorse any other candidate.
The decision was unanimously approved during a Party Assembly meeting held at 7:15pm yesterday. The announcement was made by Özersay himself.
In the statement, the party emphasized that although it is not currently represented in the Parliament , it has continued to play an active and effective role in opposition politics.
The party also highlighted deep concerns about ongoing political and social deterioration, citing issues such as forged diplomas, bribery, and the disintegration of state institutions due to unlawful practices.
The statement read:
“Given the current state of the country—where state institutions are collapsing—it is evident that the powers of the Presidency alone are not sufficient to tackle these deep-rooted problems. To rebuild the state and combat corruption and injustice effectively, we believe it is far more meaningful and necessary to take part in governing rather than pursuing the Presidency at this time.”
